DHAKA, Mar 8, 2025 (BSS)- Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six persons in connection with sensational gold robbery in the capital’s Banasree on February 23 last.
The arrestees were identified as Md. Kausar, 31, Md. Farhad, 64, Md. Khalilur Rahman, 50, Md. Sumon, 30, Dulal Chowdhury, 43 and Aminul, 35, said a media release of DMP today.
DB rounded up them after conducting a series of raids in various parts of the country including the capital Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Barisal, Pirojpur and Madaripur.
DB also recovered 4.9 bhoris of gold, cash Taka 2,44,500, a 7.62 mm revolver, 4 rounds of bullets and a motorcycle from their possession.
The miscreants robbed Anwar Hossain, 45, owner of “Alonkar Jewelry” at Avenue Road-5, C Block under Rampura Police Station when he was returning home.
The armed assailants came on three motorbikes robbed 160 bhoris of gold and Taka one lakh cash as Anwar reached at the gate of his rented house at Banasree, 6/7.
They shot and chopped Anwar indiscriminately and fled the scene after snatching the valuables.
The victim's wife filed a case with Rampura Police Station on February 24 in this connection.
After the incident, Rampura police station and detectives started working to unveil the mystery of the incident and arrest the criminals.
Police said at first they arrested a robber from Barisal after reviewing the CCTV footage at the scene. According to his information four DB teams conducted operations in the capital Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Barisal, Pirojpur and Madaripur and arrested the other members of the team.
Police said there are multiple robbery cases against each of the arrestees and the nature of their crimes is also similar.
