DHAKA, March 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed six people, arrested in a case lodged over shooting and hacking a gold trader and robbing 160 bhoris of gold and Taka one lakh from him in the city's Banasree area, on three-day remand each.
The remanded accused are- Md Kawser, Md Farhad, Md Khalilur Rahman, Md Sumon, Dulal Chowdhury and Aminul.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each.
Detective branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in separate drives arrested the six accused and recovered around five bhoris of stolen gold ornaments, Taka 2.44 lakh got from selling of the stolen gold, a 7.62 caliber pistol, four bullets and a motorcycle.
According to the case documents, Anwar Hossain, owner of Olonkar Jewelers of Rampura C Block, was returning to his home with 160 bhoris of gold ornaments and Taka one lakh in his back pack on the night of February 23. As he reached in front of his home in Banasree Block-D, seven assailants on three motorbikes stopped him and tried to snatch the back pack. As he resisted, they started hacking him and shot four to five rounds at him, two hitting him on left leg.
The robbers managed to flee the scene with the gold and money.
Anwar's wife filed the case with Rampura Police Station in this connection.
