DHAKA, March 11, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today issued arrest warrant against 10 people in a case lodged over brutal murder of Shaikh Ashhabul Yamin in Savar on July 18, 2024.
"The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution," prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim told newsmen.
The tribunal also set May 18 for submitting probe report in the case.
The prosecutor, however, refrained from revealing the identities of the accused over security reasons, hinting that they include members of law enforcing agencies and leaders of local wing of Awami League.
Police were seen dragging wounded Yamin, a fourth-year student in the Computer Science and Engineering department at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Dhaka, from a police APC in the Savar Bank Colony area on July 18, and dropping his body like a sack of rice on the street.
The shocking footage of this brutal act by the police spread on social media.
Yamin, still breathing, was then tossed across the road divider and left to die from his wounds. He was taken to different hospitals, where the authorities refused to treat him and was finally taken to police station. He was allegedly tortured there to his death.
