DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-7 constituency Solaiman Salim on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of madrasa student Shahenur Rahman during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunaid passed the order as police produced Solaiman before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand.
According to the case documents, local people brought out a jubilation rally in the morning of August 6 last year, a day after the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India, in Lalbagh Beribadh area. Cadres of the Awami League (AL) attacked the rally, firing gunshots indiscriminately. Shahenur, 19, got shot and died on the spot.
On September 29, 2024, the victim's brother Md Mazedul Islam filed the case with Lalbagh Police Station.
Solaiman Salim was arrested from the city's Gulshan area on November 14 last year.
