Drive against footpath encroachers to be conducted after Eid: DNCC administrator

DHAKA, March 15, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)
Administrator Mohammad Azaz today said that drives will be conducted after
Eid-ul-fitr to free footpaths from illegal grabbers.

"The trade licenses of shopkeepers who encroach on the sidewalks will be
cancelled and their shops will be sealed off by conducting drive after Eid,"
he told journalists while inspecting the ongoing development work on the
Mirpur 60-feet road.

The DNCC administrator said, "We have seen footpath encroachment in many
places. Many garage owners are using the sidewalks and roads to wash
motorcycles and cars."

Many shopkeepers are using the sidewalks outside the boundaries of their
shops to do business, he said, adding, "I urge them to free the sidewalks of
roads."

Referring to two very important roads in the DNCC area -- Mirpur 60 feet road
and Mirpur DOHS-Uttara Diabari road--, he said, "We have already completed
the repair work on the road from Mirpur DOHS to Uttara Diabari and opened it
to the public."

The work on the 60-feet road will be completed and made suitable for public
movement before Eid, he added.

DNCC administrator said all roads under construction in the DNCC areas will
be completed before Pohela Baishakh.

He along with the DNCC officials also inspected the "Bogar Mar Canal" in
Shewrapara-Ananda Bazar.

Later, he inspected the Rupnagar Duaripara Canal. He exchanged views with
Uttar Pallabi house and its flat owners association in the capital.
