DHAKA, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two individuals in the capital's Wari area, seizing fake Taka 38 lakh and Indian 77,100 rupee along with various tools used for printing counterfeit currency.
The arrestees were Md. Saidur Rahman, 32 and Md. Mehedi Hasan, 25, said in a DMP media release today.
Acting on a tip-off, the DB knew that on Monday night, a group of counterfeit note traders were staying in flat 6/B on the sixth floor of a building on Lane 08 of RK Mission Road, in possession of various tools for producing both domestic and foreign counterfeit notes.
Based on the information received, the Illegal Weapons Recovery and Drug Control Team of the DB-Uttara Division carried out a raid and apprehended the two suspects while they were attempting to escape. However, one of their accomplices managed to flee.
During the arrest, they recovered a total of Taka 38,52,600, denominations of banknotes Taka 1000 and Taka 500, counterfeit Indian rupees, a CPU, a monitor, eight unused ink cartridges for printing fake notes, 100 pieces of foil paper (security tape), and two mobile phones from their possession.
A case has been filed against the arrested persons and another absconding person under the Special Powers Act at Wari Police Station in this connection.
