DHAKA, Mar 20, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e Islami has submitted their opinions on the proposals of key reforms to the National Consensus Commission.

The present  interim government has formed the seven-member National Consensus Commission headed by chief adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus aiming to review and adopt the recommendations made by six key reform commissions.

 A Jamaat-e-Islami delegation led by its secretary general and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Parwar submitted their opinions to vice president of the National Consensus Commission Professor Dr Ali Riaz at the commission’s Sangsad Bhaban office here today.

Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad, central executive council member and its central publicity and media cell secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda were, among others, present during this time.

The jamaat leaders have submitted their proposals on five issues, including constitution, elections, judiciary, public administration and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to the commission.

“The Jamaat-e Islami is giving importance to reforms aiming to hold a free, fair and neutral election”, said Professor Mia Golam Parwar to the journalists, adding, “Even jamaat leaders, including its Ameer, are repeatedly demanding a meaningful election quickly after completing necessary reforms.”

The interim government, however, has placed an idea before the nation about the timeframe of the elections, said the Jamaat’s secretary general, adding. “We did not disagree with the idea.”

“We have submitted our opinions on five things  . . . we have not agreed with the commission on some issues but we have agreed on many issues . . . we have given our statement with detailed explanations”, he added.

“We have given importance to proportional representation electoral system  . . . We hope that the interim government will begin work for holding a meaningful elections after completing the necessary reforms,” he added.
