Nahid demands arrest of Dumki college student rapist within 24 hours

PATUAKHALI, March 20, 2025(BSS) - Convener of National Citizen Party (NCP) Nahid Islam today demanded immediate arrest of the remaining accused of Dumki college student rape case within 24 hours.

“We came to know that the names of two accused of the rape and one has already been arrested,” he said this while exchanging views with media on abduction and gang rape of the college student at Patuakhali Medical College hall room here.

He said not only the Dumki incident, offenders of other rape incidents would have to be arrested soon. The government should immediately amend the existing laws in this regard what they have already decided, he added.

NCP Central Member Dr Tasnim Zara said the criminals to move freely in the society after committing frequent crimes and the victims of the repression to seek justice door to door, it can’t be accepted anymore. This situation must be changed and the offenders should be tried after indentifying them, she added.

“We have to come out from the culture of impunity and ensure justice for the Dumki rape victim that is her basic rights,” she added.

She claimed that the victim told her that she does not seek justice. ‘I don’t want justice as a girl, I want justice as a general citizen of this country”.

NCP Joint Convener and Assistant Attorney General Mujahidul Islam Shaheen said that his organization will provide all out efforts and legal supports for the girl for ensuring fair justice.

Among others, Abdul Hannan Masud and Dr Tasnim Zara were accompanied with NCP Convener.

On the other hand, a central team of BNP instructed by its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman led by Hassan Mamun came to Patuakhali and visited the victim at hospital at about 3:00pm.

A 12 grader of Government Janata College and daughter of Jasim Hawlader, a martyred of July-August uprising, was gang rapped at a jungle of Algi village under Pangashia union of Dumki upazila on March 18 last.

The victim lodged a case against three persons-Sakib Munshi,19, Sifat Munshi,20 and Imran Munshi, 19. Police later arrested Sakib Munshi from the area.

Police said the medical test of the victim has been done and undergoing treatment at Patuakhali Government Medical College Hospital in its ‘one stop crisis centre’. They are trying to arrest the other suspects as soon as possible, police added.
