CHATTOGRAM, March 20, 2025 (BSS) - Nagorik Oikkya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna here today said that there should not be a conflict between reforms and polls, rather both to be carried out in a parallel way to hold an acceptable and quality election for sustainable democracy.
“A meaningful reform is prerequisite for a credible and quality election to have a sustainable democracy so that none can snatch away the people’s rights further in future” Manna made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion this afternoon.
The pre-Ifter mahfil discussion titled “Not small, not big –We want necessary reforms” organized by the city unit of Nagorik Oikkya held at Senior’s Club auditorium in the city.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna said all anti-fascist political parties have extended their support to the interim government led by Prof. Muhammad Yunus to create a congenial atmosphere through necessary reforms that will help to bring back rule of law and sustainable democracy.
He said the interim government has deserved a big appreciation for its significant performance in many areas, including a stable price situation in the month of Ramadan despite many limitations and obstacles.
He said, “It is better for all to hold a credible election through meaningful necessary reforms as soon as possible.”
Nagorik Oikkya general secretary Shahidullah Kaiser, Freedom Fighter Ekramul Karim, journalist Zahidul Karim Kachi and Mohammed Shah Nowaz, among others, took part in the discussion chaired by party’s central executive committee member Sohrab Hossain and moderated by city unit general secretary Nurul Afser majumder Sawpon.
