ACC starts investigation against two VCs of Haji Danesh university

DINAJPUR, March 23, 2025(BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigation into different irregularities against two former vice chancellors of Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU).

Deputy Director (DD) of ACC’s integrated district office, Dinajpur Md Ataur Rahman today told the media that a team of its local office has started investigation against former vice chancellors Prof Dr M Kamruzzaman and Dr Md Abul Kashem.

There are allegations of corruption in recruiting officers and employees in the university, admission process and misappropriation of government money against the two VCs, the DD added.

Director, Public Relations of the university Md Khademul Islam said that the ACC sought related files and evidences of corruption of the two former vice chancellors to the present management of the university.

Citing the documents preserved at the university office the director said that Dr Md Abul Kashem joined as the sixth VC of the university on February 2, 2017 while Dr M Kamruzzaman as the seventh VC on June 30, 2021.

Both the VCs were accused in massive irregularities in recruiting officers and employees through nepotism and taking bribe, manipulating admission process every academic year and misappropriation of government money, he added.

The ACC recently constituted a three-member inquiry committee headed by DD of its Dinajpur office Md Ataur Rahman and instructed the committee to submit the probe report to the commission as early as possible.

ACC DD Ataur Rahman told BSS that they have already started investigation against the corruption of two VCs for their alleged involvement in various irregularities.

When contacted, Prof Dr Md Jahangir Kabir, treasurer and acting registrar of the university, told BSS that the university authorities have received two demand letters from the ACC. Besides, the ACC team met with the university authorities and sought related documents against the two VCs.

Deputy registrar, audit cell of the university, Md Rezaul Islam Sarkar said the university regent board in a recent meeting decided to inquire all irregularities and corruptions committed during the last governments and constituted two powerful committees in this regard.

The board also instructed both the committees to submit its probe report to the university authorities within the stipulated time, he said adding that the committee reports would be handed over to the ACC inquiry team for taking necessary measures.
