CUMILLA, March 23, 2025 (BSS) – Local administration with the help of the law enforcement agencies has taken special initiatives to keep the highway’s Cumilla-Chattogram section free from traffic jam to make the journey of Eid holidaymakers comfortable ahead of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-fitr.
Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kaysar said that the district administration has taken steps to keep 12 hotspots of Cumilla-Chattogram highway’s 104-km area free from traffic congestion to ensure safe travel of people by road on the occasion of Eid.
At the meeting of the Road Safety Committee, instructions have been given to everyone to ensure that traffic movement on any highway in Cumilla district does not face any hindrance during the Eid journey.
Special emphasis will be given on road monitoring from March 27 to April 28 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
As the 104-km section of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla is known as the lifeline of Bangladesh's economy, the administration is very sincere to remove traffic congestion in Cumilla highways ahead of Eid.
In this regard, Highway Cumilla Region Police Superintendent Md Khairul Alam said, “We are holding a coordination meeting with all departments to keep the highways safe and trafficsmooth during Eid."
The hotspots include Gouripur Bazar, Elliotganj Bazar, Balda Khal, Gomti Meghna Bridge toll point, Shahid Nagar, Madaiya Bazar, Chandina Bagur bus stand in Daudkandi upazila, Nimsar Bazar in Burichang upazila, Mainamati Cantonment Mor, Alekharchar, Paduar Bazar Bishwa Road, Suagazi Bazar, Kotbari U-turn in Sadar Dakshin upazila, Chauddagram Bazar, Chiora Bazar, Mia Bazar, Baburchi Bazar and Kangshanagar Bazar on the Cumilla-Sylhet Highway.
"We have taken advance measures at the 12 points on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway that have been identified as hotspots. Illegal structures built on both sides of the highway at various places are being demolished," Khairul Alam.
He said the police administration has deployed most of our manpower for highway’s security at night so that passengers can reach their destinations safely at night.
Meanwhile, volunteers, student representatives, community policing members and Rover Scout members will be deployed in the 105-kilometer area of Cumilla on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway to keep the Eid journey free from sufferings.
After visiting several areas in the district, BSS’s Cumilla correspondent saw that the district administration and police are working sincerely to identify problems in roads and highways and resolve those ones quickly.
Three-wheelers’ movement on the highway, plying of vehicles in opposite direction, illegal parking, illegal CNG stands, entry of local vehicles on the highway, random road crossings, illegal structures on both sides of the road and slow speed at toll plazas are main seasons for traffic jam on the Cumilla-Chittagong section of the highway.
