DHAKA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested a man along with a lifted 
car and a foreign pistol from the capital's Gulshan area.

A team of Shahbag Police Station conducted a raid in front of Hotel Amari in 
Gulshan on Monday at 3:15 am and nabbed Ahsan Ahmed alias Masum, 36, in 
connection of lifting a car on the pretext of a test drive, said a media 
release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today. 

Alongside the car, a magazine loaded with five rounds bullets and a foreign 
pistol, and three mobile phones were seized from his possession.

According to Shahbagh Police Station, Mashrur Nair, owner of a car showroom 
located in Paribagh Garden Tower, is an importer and distributor of Japanese 
cars. 

On March 7 this year at 5:30pm, an unknown person called Mashrur Nair to 
purchase a Toyota Harrier car. The following day, the person came to his 
garage at about 7:37pm while two more people were waiting outside the garage.

Later, the three unknown people, along with Mashrur Nair's cousin Md. Piyal 
Mahmud, got into the Toyota Harrier car for test drive. They drove the car 
and arrived at the Metrorail station in front of Bangladesh Medical 
University under Shahbagh Police Station at about 8:15pm. 

Then, they stopped the car, and one of them put a pistol to Piyal Mahmud's 
head and threatened to kill him, as well as got him out of the car and took 
the car away.

The estimated value of the car is Taka 85 lakh. 

Shortly after the incident, the kidnappers sent a message to Mashrur Nair on 
WhatsApp, threatening him not to file any case and not to post the matter on 
social media. 

However, a case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station on March 9 by Mashrur 
Nair.

Police said that during the investigation of the case, the car lifters were 
identified with the help of technology. 

Initial interrogation revealed that the arrested Ahsan Ahmed is a former 
student of BUET and is very skilled in the use of technology. He is involved 
in criminal activities professionally.

He has confessed being involved in many such crimes including robbery before. 
He used to lift cars and later demand money by promising to return the cars 
to the owners. 

There are multiple cases of car robbery against the arrested Ahsan in 
different police stations.

Legal action is being taken against the arrested person.
