DHAKA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today ordered to produce three former police officials before the court on April 15 in a case lodged over killing six youths during the July-August mass uprising and the subsequent burning of their bodies to conceal the crime.
The three accused are- former additional superintendent of police (crimes and ops) Md Abdullahil Kafi, former additional superintendent of police (Savar circle) Md Shahidul Islam and former detective branch (DB) inspector Md Arafat Hossain.
The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution.
ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam and prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim represented the prosecution during the hearing.
According to the prosecution, police members on August 5, 2024, allegedly shot six youths and put their bodies into a police van. The van was then set ablaze in an attempt to make it appear as though the protesters had torched the vehicle, resulting in the deaths.
"Tragically, one of the victims was still alive when the fire was set. Police poured petrol on the van and burned him alive," Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam told newsmen earlier.
