DHAKA, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced
Sohel Rana and his wife Ruma Akhter alias Sumana to life
term imprisonment for killing a cloth trader named Kamrul
Hasan in Sadarghat area in 2015.

Islam delivered the verdict in presence of the accused today.
Later, they (accused) were sent to jail.
The convicts were also fined Tk. 10,000 each, in default of
which they have to spend additional three months in jail,
according to a court source.
Besides, the court also announced that the accused will be in
jail for another three years for hiding the body after murder, it
said.
According to case details, a case was filed over murder and
disappearance of a cloth trader Kamrul Hasan at Sadarghat
centering money transaction on September 23, 2015.
It said the victim’s aunt (maternal) Advocate Rehena Parveen
filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court
after she failed to contact and find Kamrul.
Later, the court ordered Paltan Police Station to investigate into
the case. Police submitted charge sheet to the court but the
complainant declined to accept the chargesheet.
Later, the court ordered the PBI to investigate the case again.
After the investigation of the case, investigative officer PBI
Police Inspector Harunar Rashid submitted the charge sheet to
the court on October 9, 2017 accusing two people.
The investigation report said that Kamrul Hasan was murdered
and later his body was found stuffed in a sack and dumped into a river.
On June 5, 2018, the court framed charges against the accused
and ordered for trial. During the trial, 14 out of 24 witnesses
testified in the court.
