Chaitra Sankranti & Nabobarsho to be celebrated nationally

DHAKA, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - The government has taken initiatives to nationally celebrate Chaitra Sankranti and Bengali New Year as well as New Year of Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Garo and other ethnic groups.

Bangla New Year programme will feature Pahela Baishakh procession under the arrangement of Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University and cultural programmes and brining out procession with the participation of members of ethnic groups of three hill districts from CHT Complex from the capital's Bailey Road and offering flowers at Ramna Park lake.
 
There will be a public procession with the participation of Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Garo, Manipuri and other ethnic groups and female footballers, along with the Bangalee community.

In the morning of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year, cultural programmes will be held at Ramna Batamul under the arrangement of Chhayanaut and Dhanmandi Rabindra Sarabar Manch.
 
In addition, various cultural organizations including Bulbul Lalitakala Academy, Department of Theater and Performance Studies of Dhaka University, Garo Cultural Organization will organize programmes on the occasion of Bangla New Year.
 
Bangla Academy and Bangladesh Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation will organize a seven-day New Year fair, discussion and other programmes on the academy premises.
 
Special features will be published in newspapers instead of supplements portraying significance of Nabobarsho celebration.

These decisions have been taken at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to celebrate the New Year.

On Pahela Baishakh, a colorful drone show and cultural programme will be organized at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban under the auspices of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the initiative of the Shilpakala Academy.

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs will organize discussion meetings, quiz competitions, essay competitions and painting competitions on the occasion of Bengali New Year.
 
On Chaitra Sankranti, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organize a Chaitra Sankranti concert at Suhrawardy Udyan. In addition, mobile music, painting exhibitions and stick games will be organized on Pahela Baishakh.

Every district and upazila will organize a procession and cultural programs on the first day of Baishakh.

All educational institutions will celebrate the Bengali New Year with pomp and show under their own arrangements. Traditional Bengali food will be provided to all prisons, hospitals and orphanages. All museums and archeological sites will be kept open to the public. In addition, Bangladesh missions abroad will also organize special programs on the occasion of the Bengali New Year.
