Panchagarh a potential hub for mushroom, pearl farming: Sarjis

PANCHAGARH, April 12, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) chief organizer (north) Md Sarjis Alam said Panchagarh has the potential to become a leading district for mushroom and pearl farming in the country.

Sarjis made the remarks at the closing ceremony of a two-day training workshop on mushroom and pearl farming, held at DC Park in Mirgor area under Dhakkamara union of Sadar upazila today.

"Mushroom and pearl farming are currently practiced on a small scale in different parts of the country. With the right support and training, Panchagarh can be developed as a branding district for these initiatives," he said.

He also highlighted the growing trend of self-reliance among women.

Today, many mothers prefer to become self-dependent rather than relying solely on their husbands. We are seeing a rise in young entrepreneurs across the country, he said.

The workshop, hosted by district administration with support from DC park committee, was presided over by Panchagarh deputy commissioner Sabet Ali.

54 unemployed individuals from various areas of the district participated in the workshop.

Farhad Hossain Azad, rural development affairs secretary of the central BNP and member secretary of the district BNP, Jahirul Islam Kacchu, BNP's district convener, Prof Iqbal Hossain and Mofij Uddin, ameer and nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami's district unit respectively spoke at the event, among others.
