LALMONIRHAT, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said the people of Bangladesh will not accept any election before necessary reforms and visible trial of murderers.
“People want fair elections and they do not want to see elections influenced by black money and muscle power. That is why we must create a level playing field for elections by completing these two tasks,” he said today.
The Jamaat Ameer said this at a huge public rally organised by Lalmonirhat district Jamaat-e-Islami to achieve 11-point demands at the Collectorate Ground here as the chief guest.
The 11-point demands include implementation of Teesta Master Plan, re-launch of Asia's second largest Lalmonirhat Airport, reopening of Mogalhat land port, upgrading of Burimari Highway to four lanes, release of imprisoned Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam, restoration of party registration, end of border killings, construction of permanent campus of the Aviation and Aerospace University, trial of fascist Awami League and necessary reforms to build a discrimination-free state.
Lalmonirhat District Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Central Majlis-e-Shura Member Advocate Abu Taher presided over the rally moderated by its Secretary Advocate Feroz Haider Lavlu.
Demanding to live as neighbors with India on the basis of harmony, respect and equality, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "If we remain good, they will remain good too. If we are taken away from good, India will have to worry about whether they will be good."
He said, “Those who are patriots do not flee the country, do not launder the country's money abroad. But the fallen dictatorial group has done all this.”
“Even though the fascists are gone, fascism is not gone yet. Some bad politicians are still extorting and occupying. I have heard of some incidents even in Lalmonirhat,” he said.
The Jamaat Ameer said, “We want a country where we do not want division between parties and opposition. We do not want a divided nation. We do not want to hear the words minority and majority.”
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, 'We will build this country regardless of gender. Women will be given due dignity. They will be given security. They will stay safely at home, go out and perform professional duties.’'
"Our goal is to give life, but not to give sovereignty. We will not tolerate anyone looking at us in red eyes. We have been freed from the hands of Pindi not to be prisoners in someone else's hands, but to truly become citizens of a free country," he said.
He said, "Is this what we all want, the day when justice will be established in this country? We are preparing for that day.”
He called on the people to bring Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to power for this, promising to also take various steps for the development of Lalmonirhat, including the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.
Earlier, party workers and supporters from all five upazilas of the district and surrounding districts gathered at the rally venue through processions since morning. There was a great festive atmosphere among the leaders and activists surrounding the rally.
In addition to the Collectorate ground, a large screen was arranged for women in another ground in the city.
Jamaat-e-Islami Central Assistant Secretary General Moulana Md Abdul Halim, Central Working Council Member Principal Moulana Mamtaz Uddin and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Council Member and Rangpur-Dinajpur Regional Team Member Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal and Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Vice-principal ATM Azam Khan, addressed the rally as special guests.
