DHAKA, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Division (DB) of police in separate raids arrested nine more members of the Awami League (AL) and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from different parts of the capital city on charges of making attempts to destabilize the country.
The arrested has been identified as general secretary of Ward No. 33 of Bangshal Police Station, BCL, Md. Bappi (30), vice president of South Badda Bazar Unit of Awami League, Md. Mohibur Rahman (50), joint general secretary of Awami League of Manoharganj Police Station, Cumilla, Abul Kalam Azad (47), vice president of Ward No. 32 of Bangshal Thana AL, Babu Ahmed (55), former president of Ward No. 22 of AL, Abdul Khalek (55) 6. Kalabagan Thana Bangabandhu Parishad General Secretary Md. Kabir Hossain (48), Dhaka University Jagannath Hall unit of BCL Drama and Debate Affairs Secretary, Dipam Saha (26), former general secretary of BCL Demra Thana unit, Kazi Ismail Hossain (42) and BCL activist Md. Muhtasin Fuad alias Piyal.
Separate teams of the DB arrested them from the city's Nawabpur, Beraid, in front of the Public Health Engineering Building in Ramna, Bangshal, Moghbazar, Hatirpool, Matuail,
Tejgaon and Adabar areas on Sunday and Monday, said a police press release.
They are accused in various cases registered with different police stations in the capital, it said.
Among them, Ismail Hossain admitted that he participated in the Jhatika (sudden) procession in Jatrabari area on April 20, 2025.
According to the press release, the apprehended people organized themselves in various ways and created panic in the public mind by bringing out sudden processions at different places in the capital and thus tried to destabilize the country.
Legal action is underway against them.
With the arrestees, a total of 31 members of the AL and its front organisations were arrested in the last three days.
