LALMONIRHAT, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen today said officials must be more sincere in providing services and prioritize the needs of service recipients to prevent institutional corruption.

"Major corruption occurs in procurement activities. Development projects are often designed to serve the interests of contractors rather than the public. To prevent institutional corruption, officials should show greater sincerity in their duties," he said.

The ACC chairman made the remarks while addressing the 173rd public hearing at the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium as the chief guest.

The anti-graft body held the hearing with a view to eliminating corruption from the country by ensuring access to government services and increasing honesty, integrity, accountability and values among government officials.

ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Mia Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi was present at the event as a special guest.

Deputy Commissioner HM Rokib Haider presided over the session, while ACC Director General (prevention) Md Akther Hossain, Police Superintendent Tariqul Islam, Rangpur Divisional Office Director Md Talebur Rahman, among others, addressed the event.

During the hearing, aggrieved citizens presented complaints before the commission, citing harassment and denial of services at various government offices in Lalmonirhat.

A total of 106 complaints were heard against 33 government departments. Several were resolved on the spot, while officials of the concerned departments were instructed to address the remaining issues within a specific timeframe.

The ACC expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the District Education Office, Social Services Department, and Rural Electricity Office. The commission also announced an investigation into several complaints related to the education and social services offices.
