CHATTOGRAM, April 24, 2025 (BSS) - Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust said media is now enjoying unfettered freedom in the country. 

“We must take this opportunity to prevent the spread of misinformation. Journalists must play more responsible role in providing objective news in this era of free journalism,” he added. 

M Abdullah came up with the comments while addressing as chief guest the Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust cheque distribution ceremony today at the VIP lounge of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) in the city.

The function was jointly organized by Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust and Chattogram Metropolitan Union of Journalists (CMUJ).  

Mohammad Abdullah said it has been decided to provide fellowships to journalists every year. Work is underway to bring insolvent senior journalists under the monthly allowance, he added. 

The Journalists Welfare Trust has taken the initiative to formulate a policy in this regard. 

Scholarships are being given to the children of journalists. The Welfare Trust is taking multifaceted steps for the financial security and overall welfare of journalists. 

 Md Shah Nowaz, President of Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists Union (CMUJ), Chattogram   Press Club Member Secretary Jahidul Karim Kochi, Deputy Director (Local Government) of the District Administration Md. Noman Hossain, CMUJ General Secretary Saleh Noman, its Joint Secretary Rafiqul Islam Selim, journalists Mahbub Maula Ripon, Mazumder Nazim Uddin, among others, addressed the function. 

Later, the chief guest and other guests distributed checks among 27 media workers of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Rangamati districts.
