DHAKA, April 27, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (BJAF), a forum of pro-BNP lawyers, today demanded arrest and trial of former chief justice A B M Khairul Haque, accusing him as the main architect of ruining country’s judiciary and democracy.
BJAF leaders made the demand at a press conference at the Supreme Court Lawyers' Association building.
In a written statement BJAF President Advocate Zainul Abedin also demanded removal of fascist allies and corrupt judges saying, “The fugitive Sheikh Hasina established fascism in the country with the direct support of the judiciary.
Democracy could not have been destroyed had the judiciary performed its constitutional duty entrusted with it.”
He said the main architect of ruining the judiciary and democracy was former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque.
“He has not been arrested or prosecuted for unknown reasons. But his trial is the popular demand of the people of Bangladesh. In this regard, the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Home Affairs have not taken any initiative so far,” he added.
Speakers at the press conference urged lawyers across the country to wage united movement in favor of the demands raised by BJAF.
BJAF Secretary General Barrister Kaiser Kamal announced a programme to stage protest rallies of lawyers in all district bars across the country on April 29.
President of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, BJAF Joint Secretary Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal and BJAF Organizing Secretary Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, among others, were present on the occasion.
