AL leader Md. Ayub Babul Photo: Collected

CHATTOGRAM, April 29, 2025 (BSS):- A Chattogram court today ordered to send former mayor of Patiya Municipality and Awami League (AL) leader Md. Ayub Babul to jail rejecting his bail petition. 

 District and Sessions Judge Nurul Islam passed the order while Babul appeared before the court to seek bail who is an accused in a number of cases including attacking students and general protesters during July uprising in Patiya municipal areas. 

Ayub Babul was the former mayor of Patiya Municipality and vice-president of the Upazila AL.

Babul’s name has been mentioned in a case, filed with Patiya Police for attacking students on August 4 last year.  

Over hundred protesters including a good number of students who joined a rally during Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were injured when activists of AL and its front organizations attacked on them at Patiya Sadar area on August 4, 2024.

Nurul Hasan, a student of Patiya Al Jamia Al Islamia Qasemul Ulum (Patiya Madrasa) filed a case against 79 people mentioning their names and accusing 250-300 unidentified people for the attack on August 19 last year.
 
Detained Babul is wanted in other cases- including attack, ransack, looting of local BNP office and attempt to murder. 

District Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury Razzak said the court rejected his bail petition in all three cases and ordered to send him to jail.
