Ex-MP Ashika Sultana sent to jail after remand in Anti-Terrorism Act case

DHAKA, July 02, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail Ashika Sultana, former lawmaker from Nilphamari-3 constituency, after completion of her three-day remand in a case lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order as police produced her before the court and pleaded to keep her behind bars till the end of probe in the case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque on June 29 placed Ashika Sultana on a three-day fresh remand in the case. Earlier, on June 26, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manjurul Islam placed Ashika Sultana on a three-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organizations on June 19, 2026, gathered in front of BATA Showroom in Mirpur-1 Apex Building and brought out a rally, chanting different anti-government slogans.

Police later filed the case with the Mirpur Model Police Station.
