DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) – Ustad Azizul Islam, a noted flute   maestro of the sub-continent, enthralled the audiences with his outstanding flute music as he performed a ‘solo flute evening’   at  Jatiya Press Club (JPC) on Friday, said a JPC release  today.

Ekushey Padak recipient flutist Azizul Islam at the outset of the programme played ‘Raag Shyam Kalyan’, a soulful evening melody blending Kalyan and Kamod thaats, beautifully expressed on the bamboo flute (bansuri) through smooth notes   and a romantic, devotional tune.

Then he played Indian classical flute performances of jhaptal and tin-tal.

The legendary flutist also played Raag Darbari (Kanada), Raag Charukeshi, and Pahari Dhun which are distinct melodic frameworks that sound deeply expressive on the Indian bamboo flute (bansuri). 

He then played Raag Jaijaiwanti (often spelled Joyjoyanti) on the Indian bamboo flute (bansuri) involves capturing romantic and majestic mood.

Bangladeshi flute maestro Azizul Islam, graduated from Bangladesh Marine Academy and became a captain of a merchant vessel. He was trained under Ranjan Sengupta and Vilayat Ali Khan.

Islam left the marine job in 1973.He became a student of the Indian sarod player Ustad Bahadur Khan to acquire the knowledge of the performing style of Seni Gharana. 

Then he received lessons from the flutists Devendra Murdeshwar and VG Karnad, both disciples of noted Indian flute (bansuri) player and composer Pannalal Ghosh.

JPC president Poet Hasan Hafiz inaugurated the function while JPC general secretary Ayub Bhuiyan gave the welcome address at the beginning of the function.

JPC’s cultural sub-committee convener Kazi Rawnak Hossen moderated the function.

Press Club managing committee treasurer Bakhtiar Rana, members Qader Gani Chowdhury, Syed Abdal Ahmed, AKM Mohsin, Shahnaj Begum Poly, Mohammad Momin Hossain and their family members and audiences also  attended the flute music programme. 

On behalf of the JPC, later, the JPC president Poet Hasan Hafiz, general secretary Ayub Bhiyan and managing committee members presented crest to the legendry flutist.
