DHAKA, August 2, 2026 (BSS) – Newly joined ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan today said sustainable development can only be ensured by sending corruption into exile.

Talking to the journalists following his joining as joined Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), he stressed that preventing corruption is the foremost prerequisite to establish good governance.
“To establish good governance, the most important issue is preventing corruption. If we are to achieve sustainable development, corruption must be sent into exile,” he said.

Saidur Rahman Khan expressed his commitment to build the ACC as an efficient, effective and people-oriented institution capable of combating corruption. "We want to undertake programmes that will enable people to benefit from the ACC's services while ensuring the proper protection and utilization of state resources," he added.

Khan said his immediate priorities would include gaining a comprehensive understanding of the commission's ongoing activities, consulting with officials and employees and, if necessary, launching priority-based "crash programmes." He also noted that initiatives had already been taken to review various recommendations related to the ACC.

Referring to the Commission's public image, he said Bangladesh is going through a period of transformation and that he joined the institution as part of that broader process.

"The ACC has long faced criticism and suffered from a negative image. We want to change that perception and transform the institution into one that is more people-friendly and enjoys public confidence. We will work together with honesty and dedication to achieve that goal," he said.

Regarding the formation of a new ACC Commission, Khan said the Search Committee's work is almost complete. Once the government finishes the required procedures, the new Commission will be formally constituted.

"I hope a full-fledged Commission will assume office very soon," he said.

Responding to the allegations that the ACC has been influenced by governments or ruling political parties, Khan said that the Commission would work independently in accordance with the Constitution and the law.

"The ACC does not serve the interests of any government or political party. It is an independent constitutional institution and will function in accordance with the law. People may have different assessments of the past, but our objective is to move beyond those perceptions and establish the ACC as a neutral, professional and credible institution. We are committed to work in the interests of the law and the people, not for any individual or government," he said.

Khan further said that the efforts to bring about a positive transformation within the ACC had been underway from the outset.

Among others, ACC Director General (Special Investigation) Mir Md. Zainul Abedin Shibly, Deputy Director (Public Relations) Md. Aktarul Islam and Assistant Director (Public Relations) Md. Tanzir Ahmed, were present at that time.
