NOAKHALI, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - Three fishing trawlers sank in rough weather 
in the Bay of Bengal near Nijhum Dwip in Hatiya upazila of the district this 
morning, but all 48 fishermen aboard the vessels were rescued alive.

The accidents occurred between the morning and noon as the sea became 
turbulent amid adverse weather conditions. Two of the three trawlers sank 
completely, while the third remains partially afloat.

The trawlers belonged to Nasir Majhi, Zahir Majhi and Zahed Majhi of Amtali 
Ghat in Jahajmara Union of Hatiya.

Nishan Chowdhury, owner of Zahir Majhi's trawler, said the sea suddenly 
became rough in the morning, causing the three vessels to get into trouble 
near Nijhum Dwip.

Fishermen aboard nearby trawlers came to their assistance, helping the crews 
of the stricken vessels reach shore safely.

Of the three trawlers, two have completely capsized due to the rough sea. 
Efforts are underway to salvage Nasir Majhi's trawler, which is still 
partially afloat.

Hatiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Russel Iqbal said he had received 
reports of the three trawlers sinking amid adverse weather conditions.

Local fishermen confirmed that all the fishermen and crews aboard the three 
vessels had been rescued.
