DHAKA, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - The Paramilitary Force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 1,40,000 yaba tablets in Ukhiya and 93 bottles of Indian Phensedyl syrup along with a battery-run van in separate anti-smuggling drives in Cox's Bazar and Lalmonirhat areas.
In Cox's Bazar, a special patrol team of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), acting on a tip-off, recovered yaba tablets near Karengaghona Poultry Farm under Palangkhali Border Outpost (BOP) at around 9:40 pm yesterday.
The patrol team spotted three suspected smugglers, disguised as fishermen, entering Bangladesh from Myanmar and challenged them.
The suspects fled towards a nearby village, leaving behind a plastic fish drum. Later, searching the drum, the BGB personnel found a polythene bag containing 14 packets of blue airtight packs of yaba tablets, totalling 1,40,000 pieces.
A search operation was conducted to arrest the fleeing smugglers, but none could be detained at the time.
Meanwhile, a patrol team of Tista Battalion (61 BGB), under Purba Sardubi BOP, seized 93 bottles of Indian Phensedyl syrup and a battery-run van from Milon Bazar in Hatibandha upazila, about 1.5 kilometres inside Bangladesh from the border.
The seized goods were valued at around Tk 2,07,200.
BGB said intelligence surveillance has been strengthened to identify drug suppliers and smugglers involved in the incidents and bring them to justice.
The force said such anti-smuggling and anti-drug drives would continue, the BGB release added.
