DHAKA, Aug 21, 2026 (BSS) - AB Party has congratulated BNP Secretary General 
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd President of 
Bangladesh.

In a press release, AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju and its General 
Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad hoped that Mirza Fakhrul would rise 
above party identity and work to consolidate democracy, rule of law and 
national unity.

They said his election through direct votes of members of parliament after 35 
years marks a significant event in the country's constitutional history. 

His political experience, democratic practices and wisdom, they said, could 
contribute to strengthening democratic institutions amid the country's new 
political realities.

The AB Party leaders also thanked opposition candidate Colonel (Retd.) Oli 
Ahmad, Bir Bikram, saying his participation in the election with democratic 
norms and electoral courtesy would enrich the country's democratic culture.

They hoped President Mirza Fakhrul would act as guardian of all citizens and 
protect constitutional institutions, citizens' rights and political 
pluralism.
