CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Aug 22, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong-10 lawmaker and Chittagong University's (CU) Senate member Sayeed Al Noman today said people rejected old political culture following the 2024 July Uprising,
"Everyone here was connected to July in one way or another. If we truly want to rebuild the current Bangladesh, we must remake ourselves anew in our consciousness, our work and our thinking. After July, we no longer want that old hatred, that old conflict, that old politics," he said.
Noman made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion, organized by the Bangladesh Tarun Lekhak Forum at the auditorium of the Business Administration Faculty on the campus.
He said, "Bangladesh needs a social revolution, a cultural revolution. Nothing can be achieved without a goal. Likewise, writers must have nation-building as their goal. And at CU, all activities should be conducted on the basis of merit."
The event, presided over by CU chapter President of the forum I H Emon, was inaugurated by CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Amin.
Prof Amin said, "We want young writers to highlight the subtle issues of society and show us the way."
Khulna-4 constituency MP Azizul Bari Helal attended as the keynote speaker.
He said, "Writing illuminates the dark world of the mind. But if you don't read extensively, if you aren't a good listener or reader, you cannot write."
He further said, "When you can no longer digest what you've read, you will vomit it out, and that vomit is your original writing. You will make many mistakes while writing. Don't be discouraged by this. You'll see that this very flawed piece will one day become your most valuable work."
Assistant Prof. Ar Razi of Communication and Journalism attended as the main discussant, while Port City International University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tayub Chowdhury attended as a special guest.
At the event, honorary crests were presented to executive committee members of the CU Tarun Lekhak Forum, the writer and organizer of the year and winners of various competitions. Around four to five hundred students took part in the event.
