DHAKA, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 72 people during a special drive across crime-prone areas under its Motijheel Division on Friday.

The Detective Branch (DB) separately arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered 4,400 yaba tablets and 9 kilograms of cannabis, according to a press release.

The arrests in the Motijheel Division were made by police teams from seven stations. 

Motijheel Police Station arrested 10 people, Paltan 12, Sabujbagh 7, Khilgaon 15, Rampura 12, Shahjahanpur 8 and Mugda 8.

In a separate operation, a DB Motijheel team arrested Md. Jaj Mia, 51, in Shonir Akhra area of Jatrabari at around 5:25pm following a tip-off. 

Police said 4,400 yaba tablets were recovered from his possession.

Earlier, at around 3:55pm, another DB team arrested Md. Julhas Mia, 21, during an operation on Bouddha Mandir Road in Sabujbagh. Police recovered 9 kilograms of cannabis from him.

Separate cases have been filed against the two suspects under the Narcotics Control Act, and all those arrested have been sent to court.
