DHAKA, Sept 10, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh U-16 national football team finished as runner-up in the SAFF U-16 Championship after losing to India by 2-0 goals in the final held today (Sunday) in Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.
In the day's final, Bharat Lairenjam gave India a deserving lead early in the 8th minute while after the breather Levis Zangminlun sealed the victory scoring the second goal in the 74th minute of the match.
It was the fifth occasions as India won the SAFF U-16 Championship title in 2013, 2017, 2019 and 2022.
The Bangladesh U-16 team will return home tomorrow (Monday).
Earlier, Bangladesh made a losing start as they suffered a solitary goal defeat to defending champions India but bounced back to earn a lone goal victory over Nepal in their second match to finish as group A runners-up.
The Bangladesh U-16 team booked their ticket of final beating Pakistan by 2-1 goals in the second semifinal.
