HANGZHOU, China, Oct 3, 2023 (BSS)- Boxer Md Selim Hossain failed to cross

the quarterfinal hurdle of the 19th Asian Games boxing 57kg weight category
event after losing his Japanese rival Shudai Harada 5-0 held at Hangzhou
Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The results of five judges went against Selim who fought equally with his
Japanese rival. The crowd also gave unbiased support from the big bowl during
the match.

After the match, Selim Hossain, who was one step away from the desirable
medal, said he is content over his overall performance for reaching this
stage in the Asia Cup.

"Alhamdulillah I have reached this stage ...... no matter I did not win any
medal, but I am happy with my performance," said Selim to the pressmen after
the match.

Selim, the man from Bangladesh Army, said his Japanese opponent is very
speedy and technically better than him in the match.

Replying to a question, Selim said if he gets proper training and nursing
under the foreign coach, then he would be able to beat his Japanese rival.

The 31-year-old Bangladeshi boxer thinks that boxing is a potential event and
there is a chance of winning a medal in boxing in the future international
events if he is given proper nursing care.

The optimistic boxer was also found upbeat to take the country's boxing
forward and hoped that the future general would earn his unearned medal.

Kabaddi

Bangladesh kabaddi team suffered a 55-18 point defeat to India in their
second group A match in the kabaddi event held at Xiaoshan Guali Sports
Center Court 1.
 
India clearly dominated the entire proceeding after leading the first half by
24-9 points. They also added another 31 points in the second half with four
creditable 'lona' in the match.

After the match, Indian-born Bangladesh coach Ramesh Giri Bendi asked for
more time for the youngsters to prepare them and also expressed his optimism
about going to the semi-finals by winning the remaining two matches.

Bangladesh will face Chinese Taipei in their third match of the group
scheduled to be held tomorrow (Wednesday).

Earlier, on Monday last, Bangladesh made a winning start beating Japan by 52-
17 points in their opening group match.

Weightlifting

Bangladesh's participation in the weightlifting event ended in the Games as
Nayeem Hossain finished third in the group B of boys' 73 kg weight category
held at Xiaoshan Sports Center Gymnasium.

Nayeem lifted a total of 255 kg, snatching 115 kg and clean and jerk 140 kg.

Mongolia's weightlifter could not finish his game in this division despite
having four participants in Group B.
