DHAKA, Feb 6, 2024 (BSS) - Pacer Shohidul Islam claimed 3-13 as Chattogram Challengers hit back to winning way in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), thrashing Fortune Barishal by 16 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.
Chattogram moved to second position with 10 points from seven matches by virtue of this victory. Barishal are in fifth spot with six points from seven matches.
Chattogram piled up 145-5 after being asked to bat first but defended the modest total thanks to Shohidul by restricting Barishal to 129-8.
Tom Bruce was the top-scorer for Chattogram with 40 ball-50 not out, hitting five fours and two sixes. Opener Josh Brown blasted 38 ott 23 with one four and four sixes.
Barishal made a promising start in pursuit of the target with captain Tamim Iqbal leading from the front. But after he was dismissed following 46 ball-49, Barishal lost wickets in cluster.
Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz wad out for duck, which hurt Barishal's chase badly indeed. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim also out for single digits to further compound Barishal's woe.
Thereafter once Shohidul removed Tamim, the game was over for Barishal. Saifuddin then hammered 18 ball-30 not out in his first match in the season but couldn't help the side get over the line.
Al-Amin Hossain took 2-31 to complement Shohidul.
