DHAKA, Feb 13, 2024 (BSS)-Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan has called
for increasing sports practice among students in all educational institutions
including schools, colleges and universities of the country, said a press
release.
He made this call while talking to the media after an exchange meeting with
five sports federations at the secretariat today (Tuesday) afternoon.
The Minister said that almost all the educational institutions of the country
have sports fields and chess or athletics has the most opportunity to
practice or develop at the school level.
But, nowadays the practice of sports among the students has decreased. Due to
this, good players are not emerging at the national level. Educational
institutions should create opportunities for students to practice more sports
in addition to their studies, he added.
Terming all sports are important, the minister said, noting that the
federation which will achieve good results will be given special importance,
but the ministry has the plan to make priority list based on performance and
potential.
He said they have also plan to sit with the Prime Minister for the
development of sports.
Nazmul said he would also hold meetings with various corporate bodies
regarding collecting and increasing sponsors to promote sports and he has
also plan to know the real situation by visiting various sports federations.
Earlier, the minister held an exchange meeting with officials of kabaddi,
chess, gymnastics, handball and badminton federations.
In the meeting, Bangladesh badminton federation president and chief
information commissioner Dr Abdul Malek, chess federation president and
former IGP Benazir Ahmed, Bangladesh gymnastics federation president Sheikh
Bashir Ahmed Mamun, Bangladesh Handball Federation president AKM Nurul Fazal
Bulbul and Bangladesh kabaddi federation general secretary and police
commissioner of Dhaka metropolitan Habibur Rahman highlighted various
aspects.
Senior officials of Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Sports Council
were present on the occasion.
