Hridoy blitz keeps Comilla winning streak going

DHAKA, Feb 14, 2024 (BSS) - Young sensation Towhid Hridoy blasted a brutal 47 ball-91 not out as Comilla Victorians thrashed Khulna Tigers by seven wickets for their seventh win in ninth match of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.

Electing to bat first, Khulna posted 164-8, a score that Comilla eased past with 168-3 in 16.3 overs thanks to Hridoy's blitzkreig knock.

Hridoy smote seven fours and as many sixes in his whirldwind knock which played a vital role in handing Khulna its fifth straight defeat.

Having won the match, Comilla retained its second spot with 14 points. League leader Rangpur with identical points are just ahead of Comilla by virtue of superior net run rate.

Hridoy was ably supported by Jaker Ali who played a perfect foil to him, hitting 31 ball-40 not out with two fours and three sixes.

Captain Liton Das was dismissed for just 2 while Will Jacks, the centurion of the previous match made 10 as Comilla had a disastrous start to the chase.

Hridoy however kept the side going, hitting the bowlers all corner of the park. Khulna still had a chance when they removed Johnson Charles for 13 but with Jaker Ali matching Hridoy's agression, Khulna found them in wanting eventually.

But the batters' dismal batting was key in Khulna's downfall. While most of the batters got the start, they simply couldn't make it count.

Evin Lewis was the top-scorer for the side with 36 off 20, a knock laced with three fours and two sixes.

Moeen Ali and Matthew Ford took two wickets for Comilla.
