Holloway blasts to hurdles world record at US Indoors

LOS ANGELES, Feb 17, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Hurdles king Grant Holloway set a new world record as he blasted into the final of the 60-meter hurdles at the US Indoor Championships in New Mexico on Friday.

Holloway, the three-time 110m hurdles world champion and Olympic silver medalist, scorched into Friday's final in Albuquerque in 7.27sec, eclipsing his own previous world best of 7.29sec.

The 26-year-old from Virginia will look to add the US indoor crown to his medal collection later Friday.

Holloway was significantly quicker than his next fastest rival, with Trey Cunningham reaching the final in 7.46sec and Cordell Tinch third quickest in 7.50sec.

Holloway's world record performance was matched in the women's 60m hurdles, where Tia Jones equalled the existing world record with a time of 7.67sec.

Next quickest was Masai Russell (7.79sec) ahead of Jasmine Jones (7.82sec).

The US Indoor Championships are the team selection trials for this year's World Indoor Championships, which take place in Glasgow from March 1-3.
