Jagadees emerges champions 

 

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2024 (BSS) - IM Jagadees Siddharth of Singapore emerged unbeaten champion in the LR Global Grandmaster Aspirant 1 Chess Tournament that concluded at the auditorium of Canadian University of Bangladesh on Monday.

IM Jagadees Siddarth earned 7.5 points out of nine games to clinch the title. He also achieved a Grand Master norm from nine games. 

FM Panesar Vidant of India became runner-up with 6.5 points. He also achieved a nine-game International Master norm from this event.

IM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan of Sri Lanka finished third position with 5.5 points. Mayank Chakraborty of India became fourth and GM Ziaur Rahman became fifth with five points.

FM Aradhya Garg of India became sixth and IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman became seventh with 4.5 points. GM Dibyendu Barua of India became eighth with three points, GM Niaz Murshed became ninth with 2.5 points and IM L M S T De Silva of Sri Lanka became tenth with one point. 

In the ninth or last round matches, IM Jagadees Siddarth split points with IM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan, FM Panesar Vidant split points with IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman, GM Ziaur Rahman split points with FM Aradhya Garg, GM Niaz Murshed got walk-over against IM L MST De Silva and GM Dibyendu Barua got walk-over against CM Mayank Chakraborty. 

After the end of the tournament,, Bangladesh Chess Federation's (BCF) joint secretary and additional DIG of Bangladesh Police Dr. Shoeb Reaz Alam, Canadian University of Bangladesh register AS M G Faruq, int'l organiser Mahmuda Hoque Chowdhury Moly, BCF executive members distributed the prizes among the winners. 

A total of ten players, including three Grand Masters, four International Masters, two FIDE Masters and one Candidate Master from Bangladesh, India, Singapore and Sri Lanka participated in the round-robin league system event.
