Anahani, Mohammedan play 2-2 draw in BPL

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2024 (BSS) - Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored two late goals as Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, came from behind, forced Abahani Limited, Dhaka to play a 2-2 goal draw in their last match of the first leg of Bangladesh Premier League Football held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh on Friday.

Thanks to Malian forward Souleymane Diabate for his two timely goals that helped Mohammedan to snatch points from the jaw of Abahani Limited, who lead the first half by 2-0 goals. 

Brazilian midfielder Bruno Goncalves Rocha opened an account, scoring the first goal for Abahani early in the 2nd minute and, after the breather, Saint Vincent forward Cornelius Stewart doubled the margin, scoring the second goal for Abahani in the 55th minute of the match.

But, Mohammedan staged a brilliant fight back and scored two goals from a spot kick to deny Abahani's victory as Diabate pulled one back, scoring his first goal in the 68th minute, and he restored parity by scoring the second goal for his team in the 87th minute of the match.

Abahani Dominated the first half of the match, but Mohammedan staged a brilliant fight back in the second half of the match, showing a good brand of football.

With the day's outcome, the black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan finished second position in the league table with 17 points from nine matches, while the sky blue Dhanmondi finished third position with 15 points, playing the same number of outings.
