Fahad emerges as champion

 

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2024 (BSS)- IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman emerged as champion in the Elegant International Chess Academy Grandmaster Aspirant 2 Chess Tournament that concluded at Elegant International Chess Academy hall-room in the city's Uttara on Tuesday.

IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman earned six points out of nine matches to clinch the title.

FM Panesar Vidant of India became runner-up with the same points. IM Fahad and FM Panesar Vidant's though collected the same points, but their tie was broken by the number of win games of the tie-breaking system. In the tie-breaking system IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman became champion and FM Panesar Vidant became runner-up. 

IM Jagadeesh Siddhirth of Singapore finished third and GM Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh became fourth with 5.5 points each. FM Aradhya Garg of India became fifth with 4.5 points, CM Mayank Chakraborty of India became sixth with four points, IM Linayage Ranindu Dilshan of Sri Lanka became seventh, IM Satyaki Azarya Jodi of Indonesia became eighth and GM Niaz Murshed became ninth with 3.5 points each. GM Sriram Jha of India became tenth with three points. 

In the day's ninth and last round matches, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman got walk-over against GM Niaz Murshed, FM Panesar Vidant split point with FM Ardhya Garg, IM Jagadeesh Siddharth split point with CM Mayank Chakraborty, GM Ziaur Rahman split point with IM Linayage Ranindu Dilshan and IM Satyaki Azarya Jodi split point with GM Sriram Jha of India.

The event was held in an all play all system and total ten players including three Grandmasters, four International Masters, two FIDE Masters and one Candidate Master from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Singapore and Sri Lanka took part in the meet.
