DHAKA, April 18, 2024 (BSS)- The inauguration ceremony of the Begum Laila Alam 14th International Women's Rating Chess tournament was held today (Thursday) at Banani, Dhaka.

Begum Laila Alam formally inaugurated the tournament in the afternoon, organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation and sponsored by veteran chess player Begum Laila Alam.

General secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim presided over the opening ceremony.

International woman master Rani Hamid, BCF joint secretary Masudur Rahman Mallick BCF member Anjaman Ara Aksir, international organiser Mahmuda Haque Chowdhury Moly and international chess arbiter Md Haroon-Or-Rashid also present there.

The tournament will start from May 5 at BCF hall-room. Women and girls of all ages can participate in this competition. The competition will be played in a nine -round Swiss-League format. 

The top 9 players of this competition will get an opportunity to play in the finals of the national women's chess championship.

The winners will be awarded a total cash prize of Taka 100,000.
