Abahani go goal feast as Stewart slams hat-trick

DHAKA, May 17, 2024 (BSS)- Saint Vincent forward Cornelius Stewart slammed a brilliant hat-trick as Abahani Limited, Dhaka returned to winning streak in the ABG Bangladesh Premier League football thrashing ten men Brothers Union Club by 7-1 goals held at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj on Friday.

Apart from Stewart's hat-trick with four goals, Brazilian forward Washington Brandao struck twice while midfielder Maraz Hossain Opi supported them with a lone goal for Abahani Limited who led the first half by 1-0 goal in the one sided affairs. Uzbek midfielder Nodir Mavlonov netted a consolation goal for Brothers Union Club.

Washington opened an account scoring the first goal for Abahani in the 10th minute while after the breather he doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 64th minute of the match.

Stewart further widened Abahani's margin scoring the third goal in the 70th minute while Nidir pulled one back scoring a lone goal for Brothers Union in the 79th minute from a spot kick.

Stewart scored his second and fourth goal for Abahani in the 86th minute and completed his hat-trick scoring the fifth goal for his team in the 90th minute.

Opi made the score line 6-1 in the 90+2nd minute of the match while Stewart sealed the victory scoring his fourth and seventh goal for Abahani Limited in the 90+4th minute of the match.

Brothers Union's Gambian defender Pape Musa Faye was shown direct red card by the referee for his unsporting behavior in the match.

The day's win saw the sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani raise their tally to 29 points from 16 matches, while the all orange Gopibagh outfit Brothers union Club remained at their previous collection of seven points playing the same number of matches.
 
Earlier, in the first leg, Abahani Limited, Dhaka beat Brothers Union Club by 3-2 goals held at Rajshahi District Stadium.

Saturday's matches: Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club vs Fortis Football Club at Rajshahi District Stadium in Rajshahi at 4 pm and Bashundhara Kings vs Bangladesh Police Football Club at Bashundhara Kings Arena at 5.45 pm.
