DHAKA, May 23, 2024 (BSS)- Sheikh Kamal 38th National Junior (age group)
Athletics competition begins from tomorrow (Friday) at Bangabandhu National
Stadium in the city.
Office Secretary of Prime Minister Mohammad Salah Uddin is expected to
inaugurate the three-day meet as the chief guest while Bangladesh Olympic
Association's Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza will present as special
guest.
In the opening ceremony, athletes Mohammad Jahir Rayhan and Md. Mahfuzur
Rahman, who won silver (400m) and bronze medals (high jump) in the 11th Asian
Indoor Athletics Championship held in Tehran, will be accorded reception.
Nearly 500 boys and girls from various organisations/institutions including
64 districts, eight divisions, education boards, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha
Prothistan (BKSP) will participate in the competition, organised by
Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF).
Four groups-- boys and girls (under-16) and juvenile boys and girls (under-
18) will compete in 41 events. Among them, boys and girls (under-16) will
participate in 14 events and juvenile girls (under-18) will take part in 27
events.
The first, second and third place finishers will be given cash prize of Taka
3,000, Taka 2,000 and Taka 1,000 respectively while in addition the record
holders will get Taka 5,000 as prize money.
In this regards, a press conference was held at the conference room of
Bangabandhu National Stadium to provide all the details of the meet.
BAF general secretary Abdur Rakib Montu, its joint secretary SM Sorafat
Hossain and treasurer Jamal Hossain were present, among others, in the press
conference.
