DHAKA, June 10, 2024 (BSS)- After a fighting performance against Australia at home, Bangladesh is looking forward to restore some lost pride as they face Lebanon in their last Group I match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers scheduled to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
The match kicks off at 10 pm Bangladesh time.
Both the teams failed to reach the third round and will be looking forward to post win in their respective final game to bow out on a high.
Bangladesh ranked 184th in FIFA ranking, managed a single point which came from their 1-1 draw against war-torn nation Lebanon back in November last year from their last five group encounters. The other four matches of Bangladesh have ended with a defeat including a massive 0-7 defeat to World Cup playing nation Australia.
In the very recent meeting with Australia last week in home ground, Bangladesh conceded a fighting 0-2 goal defeat to Australia.
Bangladesh skipper Jamal Bhuyan through a video message today (Monday) said they are aiming to secure full three points against Lebanon though he thinks that it would be a big challenge for the team.
"We have analyzed with Lebanon and during the team's practice session we have discussed how to deal with Lebanon because Lebanon and Australia are two different teams. If we play as per our ability, I believe that we'll be able to snatch three points from Lebanon," said the Bangladesh skipper.
Jamal said they have discussed among themselves about the strong and weak points of Lebanon team and hoped to apply the technique to get a positive result.
The Bangladesh skipper also urged the local Bangladesh expatriate in Doha to come to the stadium on the match day to support the Bangladesh team.
Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera is also expecting a competitive game against Lebanon as his boys in Doha have shown a good performance and effort in the last match against Australia.
The Spanish coach, replying to a question, said: "We want to get a positive result tomorrow ... we are prepared for everything and at least looking for one point .... we are very confident to get something good in the last match."
