BBKF handed sports allowance to 1632 sportsmen

DHAKA, June 13, 2024 (BSS)- Bangabandhu Krirashebi Kalyan Foundation (BKKF) has distributed sports allowance of Taka 3 crore 91 lakhs and 68 thousand to 1632 sportsmen in the FY 2023-24, said a press release.

A monthly one-time sports allowance distribution program was organized by the foundation in the meeting room of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Thursday afternoon through BEFTN through digitalization method.

Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan MP was present as the chief guest in the program presided over by Youth and Sports Secretary Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed. On this occasion, the minister announced the official auspicious opening program and handed over the sports allowance cheques to the selected sportspersons.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, the minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established the BKKF on August 6, 1975 to improve the quality of life of Bangladeshi players and their families.

He said Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina enacted the BKKF Act 2011 after coming to power for the second term in 2009. BKKF is conducting various activities to reduce poverty and improve the quality of sports through the welfare of sportspersons and their families who have contributed significantly to sports and bodybuilding.

The current seed money of BKKF is Taka 77 crore 85 lakhs. From which the annual profit amount is approximately Taka 4 crore 45 lakhs. In the current FY 2023-24, sports allowance of Taka 3 crore 91 lakh 68 thousand is being given to 1632 sportspersons who have been finally selected out of a total of 2,675 applications at the district level, the minister informed.
