Taskin says sorry for arriving late before India match

DHAKA, July 2, 2024 (BSS) - Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed apologized for arriving late ahead of Bangladesh's crucial match against India in the T20 World Cup, said team's senior member Shakib Al Hasan.

Taskin, the vice-captain of the team missed the team but he managed to reach the ground ahead of the toss. He also took part in the national anthem before the game.

However he couldn't make it to the first XI that raised a question as to why he was dropped from the team. The team management also didn't give any explanation about it.

Some media outlets reported that Taskin missed the bus as he couldn't get up from the sleep on time.

Bangladesh fielded a batting-heavy lineup with only two pacers, replacing Taskin with middle-order batter Jaker Ali Anik. They eventually lost the game by a staggering 50 runs in Antigua and Barbuda.

"I don't know how the news broke out. May be as a vice-captain of the team, he was automatic choice, so when he was not in the team, it raised a question. Now I think it has to be explained," Shakib said here today ahead of leaving the country for USA where he will part in the Major League Cricket (MLC).

"It's a norm that the team bus will leave at a certain time, and usually the bus never waits. If someone ever misses, he needs to get on the next car or if the manager manages a car or a taxi for him. West Indies is a difficult place because communication facilities were actually a bit difficult there."

"Despite missing the team bus, Taskin had reached the field five to ten minutes before the toss. Naturally, it was difficult for the team management to include him in the team at that time," he continued.

"But it was over there because Taskin apologised to the entire team for this. Everyone in the team took this very normally because it was unintentional mistakes from his part. This kind of incident may happen to everyone. He admitted it, and then it ended there."
