DHAKA July 4, 2024 (BSS)-Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan, MP, today said initiatives have been taken to include kabaddi and chess in all school level sports competition.
He made the remark in a meeting with officials of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) and Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) held at his secretariat office here.
BKF president and Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun led the delegation.
The minister said: "Kabaddi and chess are two very promising games of Bangladesh. The government has taken various steps to promote both the games. I have talked to the education minister requesting to take steps to include kabaddi and chess in all sports competitions in every school in the country."
He also assured to provide all kinds of cooperation in organizing these sports competitions to spread both games across the country. If the sport can be spread at the grassroots level of the country then good players would be produced at the national level as well.
The minister said that those sports federations which are doing good results in the national and international arena would be given priority assistance from the ministry to achieve better results.
Steps also have been taken to increase the budget for sports federations, he added.
Youth and Sports Secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed, BKF general secretary and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman and BCF vice president Tarafdar Md. Ruhul Amin were also present in the meeting.
