DHAKA, July 6, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of chess icon Ziaur Rahman.
In a message of condolence, all members of the executive committee of BCF, chess players, chess arbiters and chess organizers expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Ziaur.
They also prayed for peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman passed away after suffering a heart attack while competing in the 12th round match of the National Chess Championship in Dhaka on Friday evening at the age of 50.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan Papon, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and Bangladesh Olympic Association Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza expressed deep shock at the death of Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman.
In another message, the Board of Directors of Mohammedan Sporting Club, its member, former and incumbent players and employees condoled the death of the country's prominent chess player.
