All players, sans Shakib return home from franchise leagues

DHAKA, July 25, 2024 (BSS)- Four Bangladesh cricketers---Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Towhid Hriodty--- who played the Lankan Premier League (LPL) in Sri Lanka had already returned to the country but are yet to join the ongoing camp.

Star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan, the only Bangladesh representative, playing in the Major League Cricket (MLC) in USA, is yet to come back to the country.

Those five cricketers left the country to join their respective sides in the different franchise leagues around the world immediate after the T20 World Cup.

While Taskin was the part of Colombo Strikers in LPL, Hridoy and Mustafizur represented Dambulla Sixers. Pacer Shoriful Islam played for Kandy Falcons. However none of the four players made any impact in LPL. Rather their below par performance prompted the team management to axe them from the team at one point of the tournament.

Mustafizur, a veteran of franchise cricket, took just five wickets in four matches, conceding just less than 11 runs per over. Shoriful and Taskin took four wickets in same number of matches and they are also highly expensive. But Hridoy, the most inform T20 batter of Bangladesh, disappointed extremely as he was able to score just one run in three matches he played for his team in LPL.

Shoriful was the first one to come back to the country while the other three reached Bangladesh once the tournament was over. Jaffna Kings clinched the title of the LPL eventually by beating Galle Marvelous in the grand final.

Meanwhile in USA, the big brand of Bangladesh cricket Shakib Al Hasan continued his dismal form. He played so far four matches for Los Angeles Knight Riders and his side lost three of those four matches. When he was benched in the fifth match, Los Angeles returned to winning way.

In four matches, Shakib scored just 60 runs at a strike rate of 125 while took just one wicket at an economy rate of 11.10. Even the captain Sunile Narine didn't dare to complete his four overs quota in any matches.

Despite being benched, Shakib is still in USA. However he will fly to Canada tomorrow (Friday) to play the Global T20 League, a BCB official informed.

It is yet to be known that when the premier allrounder will return to the country.
