DHAKA, Aug 1, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh umpire Sathira Jakir Jessy said she faced little pressure to conduct the Women's Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka since the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) matches taught her how to handle the nervy moment in on the field.
"I still believe that I have faced a more stressful moment in our DPL matches than India-Pakistan or the final match of the Asia Cup. As I was prepared I enjoyed those matches and did not feel any pressure," Jessy said here today.
At this time, she highlighted the experience of umpiring in the Asia Cup. She talked about Indian cricketers' appeal and subsequent experience in the final match between India and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka eventually lifted the title, beating mighty India by eight wickets.
"Any player has the right to know why she was given out or not out. There was an appeal for a leg-before in the fourth or fifth over against Sri Lanka's Chamari Atapattu. The way the Indian players were appealing that it seemed to me that they felt I denied them a 100 percent out," she shared her experience.
Jessy said that at that time India captain Harmanpreet Kaur came to her and asked why she didn't give it out.
"Harmanpreet came and asked me why I did not give out? I said it pitched up outside the leg stump. Harmanpreet appeared not to be satisfied with the answer," she recalled.
"At that very moment Harmanpreet and I looked at the big screen together. It showed that the delivery was well outside the stumps. Then I said to Harmanpreet 'have you seen it was outside the leg stump.' After that she came and said - Maam it's very good decision."
Bangladesh will host the Women's T20 World Cup at home in October.
Jessy is highly excited with the big tournament and hoped that she will get some matches to officiate.
"I am very hopeful. That's why I'm dreaming about it. BCB is also optimistic and they have had a fair talk with ICC. But until it is confirmed, nothing can be said."
