DHAKA, Aug 16, 2024 (BSS) - The Bangladesh U-20 national football team left here for Nepal today (Friday) evening to take part in the SAFF U-20 Championship scheduled to be held from August 18-28 in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
Prior to the team departure, Bangladesh U-20 football team manager Khondokar Rokibul Hossain said the players have got a little time to prepare themselves for the tournament. The coach also worked hard to keep the players fit before the meet.
He also hoped that the team would able to bring a good result for the country.
The Bangladesh U-20 team has gone through only two weeks training under the experience coach Maruful Haque. Most of the team members have playing experience of Bangladesh Premier League last season.
The boys of the team think that the team is quite balance enough consisted with experience players and hopeful to emerge champions in the tournament.
Bangladesh team U-20 team has been pitted in group A along with Sri Lanka and host Nepal while the group B consists with defending champions India, Maldives and Bhutan.
Bangladesh, the three times runners-up in 2017, 2019 and 2022 edition of the championship, will start their SAFF campaign when they will face Sri Lanka in their group opening match on August 20 before meeting host Nepal in their ultimate group match on August 22.
After the group phase matches, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals which will be held August 26. The final of the tournament is slated for August 28.
All the matches will be held at Dasharath Rangasala Stadium.
